Geoffrey One Summer Day 2024.A Poem by Terry Collett
Warm summer day. So many people. Geoffrey sat inside of the coffee shop to keep cool. Cool air filtered in nearby. He sat in a side seat and put his walker out of the way. He had ordered a cold latte and a slice of some cream cake. The barista girl said she would bring it to him. He scanned the room. No one he knew. A few familiar faces. A young woman sat at the back writing onto her laptop. She reminded him of that East German girl in 1968 who was planning to come over to the West with secrets. He liked her and she stretched his German. She never showed up that time. He wondered what happened to her. The barista brought his order and smiled and left. Jazz music played in the background. He sipped his cold coffee. He smiled. He felt momentarily like a child
