Cynara's Note #46 1972.

A Poem by Terry Collett

Half a dozen of us were taken out of the locked ward for a walk in the grounds this morning. Two nurses accompanied us one at the front and one at the rear in case one of us tried to escape. It was good to be out and feel the cold air against our hands and faces, although they wrapped us up in coats and scarves. Alun said he was drinking it all in so he could do a crayon picture later when we got back. Loony Lucy attacked Brodsky as we entered the woods and the nurses had to intervene and separate them. Brodsky had a cut lip and had to hold one of the nurse's handkerchiefs to it. Lucy had to hold the nurse's hand in the front and Brodsky stayed at the back. We got back just before lunch and locked up again. Lunch was some concoction with dead meat and over cooked potatoes and vegetables. Brodsky lost a tooth. Lucy is in the doghouse. Blue my favourite nurse gave me a smoke. My appointment with the shrink was cancelled because he's got bowel problems and I thought maybe there is a God after all. I had a letter from my dad saying my mother won't be coming on Sunday as she is going to see her friend in Southend. I felt annoyed. I don't think my mind will mend.
