Final Gaze 2012.

Final Gaze 2012.

A Poem by Terry Collett

That final look at her
lying on the hospital bed
eyes closed
mouth half open
she lay dead.

So still
so silent now
but I remember back
when she was
the center of my childhood life
always there
to love and care.

That last gaze
over my shoulder
that final photo-like glimpse
lasts as long
as my mind
can process thought
that final picture of her
was caught.

This brought tears to my eyes.
It’s such a quiet grief, the kind that doesn’t scream — just sits heavy in the chest.
That line “that final photo-like glimpse”… I know that moment. I’ve lived it.
It’s strange how one last look can burn itself so deeply into memory, more vivid than a thousand others before it.
Thank you for putting this into words — for reminding me I’m not the only one still carrying someone’s last moment like a snapshot in my mind.( I am talking about my grandparents because love is always not about husband, lover or boyfriend I guess)

Sad and/ or happy events tend to remain in the mind's eye, the last glance is caught and remains in the heart; much love and caring in this piece; well chosen words to convey the emotion..." that final photo-like glimpse".... well written

Most Welcome Terry
Warmly, B
Just lovely, poignant, moving.

"Lasts as long as my mind can process thought" That's the standout for me - original and layered. 9 words that say many more, an ongoing unspoken lament.

Best, Damien
