Remembering Juliet

Remembering Juliet

A Poem by Terry Collett

You are no more,
I have you
only in memories.
Outside the rain pours,
Philip Glass is playing
on the hifi.
I remember you and I
walking back home
from the pond,
rain dampening us,
your hair hanged
in dampness,
your eyes alive
and smiling.
Wet hands holding.
Outside the lawn
is empty of birds.
Branches of trees
bend with wetness.
Here and now.
I can by remembering you
bring you back
temporarily somehow.

Grief sometimes works its course through memories. Gradually the process will produce release and acceptance. It is a somber passage, but a necessary one.

Thank you John
You’ve made absence feel present. And that’s a kind of love that never leaves.
