Musing On Juliet

Musing On Juliet

A Poem by Terry Collett

The churchyard
is the same
new graves now
which were not here
when we first kissed
over half a century
or so ago.
The same moon shines
that shone back then
the same stars twinkle now
as they had back then.
I see the old wooden bridge
that crosses the small stream
is still there like a dream.
But you have gone
taken off by cancer
so I was told.
I walk where we once
walked and kissed
half a century ago or more
and I feel abandoned
like a small boat
on a deserted shore.

The contrast between what remains and what’s been lost is so tenderly drawn.
