It Happens.

It Happens.

A Poem by Terry Collett

It happens
the demise
of a loved one.
Torn away from you
one day.
The places
you walked once
are still there
but without her
are bare.
The cheap hotel
is no more
flats have been built
where the hotel
once stood.
You stand on the beach
watching the incoming tide
remembering
a long ago summer.
Children who once played
on the beach back then
bring their own grandchildren
here now.
A mild wind
touches your hair
as she once
touched your hair
and closing your eyes
you imagined
she still does so.

Featured Review

Poignantly penned. Revisiting a place that has memories of a special loved one. Visually beautiful but the feelings of loss are palpable. The final lines are particularly touching. Lovely work.

It Happens, it does and as we age we dread being the one left.
