Without Benny One Winter.

Without Benny One Winter.

A Poem by Terry Collett

Benny waited for me
by the water tower
along the country lane
and we walked
between the hedgerows
until we came
to the small church
and went inside.
Outside the summer sun
and birds singing
inside we sat in silence
holding hands
gazing at the altar
with the simple cross.
I still walk by
the water tower
along the country lane
between the high hedgerows
until I come to the small church
and go inside alone
and sit in silence
listening to no birds
but the cold
winter wind's moan.
