Rachel and Ravel 1974.A Poem by Terry CollettFrom another room Ravel piano music plays. She played like that once long ago. A summer day her slim fingers moving over the keyboard. Outside a slight breeze moves branches of the trees. I sip water from a glass remembering how she played the Ravel I then a young man and she a young girl. No birds on the lawn. I saw a small fox trot up the lawn earlier looking for food but finding none trotted off again. I recall her fingers playing the Ravel and the kissing of lips later beneath a long ago summer sky. I wonder if she still plays the Ravel with aged fingers and who kissed her lips later once I was gone. A pigeon walks the lawn pecking the left out bread. If I close my eyes I can hear her playing piano inside my aged head.
