Imagined Juliet.

Imagined Juliet.

A Poem by Terry Collett

Often
on seeing one similar,
I momentarily think
it's her walking
down the mall,
the colour hair,
the way of walking,
but know it is not
for death has carried her off
thirty odd years before
cancer claimed.
Remembering doesn't
always come soon,
often it allows
the illusion to continue
to reap a short lived pleasure
of her present once more,
like a once upon a time seaman
who dreams of a love
on a faraway shore.

it is strange that our brain tries to hold onto good memories for longer, especially when we are far away, time does not really heal anything, it just gives us more reasons to subtly reduce the impact of the bad things. I liked the way you have ended this with the seaman dreaming of love and a shore which is far away. thank you for sharing
