Changing Scenery.

Changing Scenery.

A Poem by Terry Collett

The bomb sites
have gone now
the places we roamed
and played
have apartments
and offices there now.

There where we gathered
small stones for catapults
or rode imaginary horses
across the ruins of war
in our childhood games
have been built over
and cover our playgrounds
of the aftermath
of German bombs
and the blitz.

They still exist
in my memory
those places
and you and I
and gunfights
in our cowboy scenes
and watching the coal lorries
load up with sacks of coal
at the coal wharf
no longer there
but in my mind
I see it all still
if I stand and stare.

Time eventually hides all things, until only memories exist. Now offices and playgrounds hide the evidence of the horrors of the blitz. Of course, the playgrounds are headed for the same fate.
