Remembering Children At Play.

Remembering Children At Play.

A Poem by Terry Collett

She came here
with her children
to play on swings and slide
watching them play
and the sounds
of their arguments and laughter
still echo in her mind
as she sits and stares
watching other children play
on the new swings and slide
and climbing frame
with parents watching.

Half century has ago
she sat and witnessed her own
at play with the innocence of childhood
unaware of the future
waiting for them all.

She sees them now and then
with families of their own
busy as bees
rushing to and fro
up to their eyes
in debts and woes.

She imagines them
as they were
playing on swings and slide
laughing and arguing
in childhood games
smiles and tears.

What happened
she muses
to all those years?

Such a tender, nostalgic piece captures the quiet ache of time passing and the beauty of memories that never quite fade. Truly moving.
