Cemetery Blues.

Cemetery Blues.

A Poem by Terry Collett

The pathway
along the cemetery path
is a lonely walk,
passing graves
whose legends
are unknown to me,
whose lives
but a mystery.
But your grave
is at the end
near the young tree,
your black granite stone
contains all there is
for others who come to know.
But no black stone
could contain
all there is to know
about you my son,
whose ashes are all
that remains of you
beneath the soil.
But it is in our hearts and mind
that you live on
in memories and love,
hoping for the time
we can see you again
in some sphere,
elsewhere not near,
nor far from here.

Grief is painful, but it is a process that must be accomplished. This offering describes a father's tribute to his late son, in the form of a visit to the cemetery. The father has in some ways come to terms with the death, but it is still weighing heavily upon him. It is well that he makes these visits; some day he will be able to say, bon voyage.
