In Deo Omnis Creatio

In Deo Omnis Creatio

A Poem by Terry Collett

In Deo omnis creatio est,
the old monk said,
nothing is
which He did not
bring into being.
Sunlight came
through the glass windows
of the refectory
and made patterns
on the polished wooden floor,
and twirling dust mites
seemed like small galaxies.

That time after choir practice,
Friday evening,
we paused Juliet and I,
kissed witness only
by the December sky.

That time Micky and I
walked home from school,
and we sheltered
in the doorway of a shop
to get out of the rain
and we shared a cigarette,
each taking a drag,
talking about Eddie
and his cousin
who walked the house
semi-clad,
and Micky said:
Can't be bad.

That time in Tangiers
with Miriam
and supping rum and coke,
watching the bellydancer
and snake charmer,
and I mused
she could charm my snake
anytime and surely
just thinking it
can't be a crime?
