The Road We Walked.

The Road We Walked.

A Poem by Terry Collett

The road we used to walk
is a motorway now
and traffic passes by
in an almost endless line
both ways.
But then it seemed less busy
and a single road
back and forth.
I chased you
along side the road
to tickle you
and hold and kiss
on the way home
from school.
Now I stand and watch
the endless traffic passing,
but you are no more,
death stole you away
some years ago,
and only a memory of that time
and road and you and I
beneath that long ago
summer sky.
