Tell Us Rebecca 1945

Tell Us Rebecca 1945

A Poem by Terry Collett

Tell us, Rebecca,
where your ashes lie.
Have the winds
carried them
to other climes,
or have they been
trampled
underfoot
or buried
in some pit or hole
despite the chimneys
with their roaring smoke?
Where
can
I
find
your traces?
Is your voice
caught
in the air
along with the voices
of the dead
who were gassed
or hanged?

Rebecca, your silence
trembles through
decades of years.
When it rains here
it is the flood
of
your tears.
