Anny and Auschwitz 1933-1942.

Anny and Auschwitz 1933-1942.

A Poem by Terry Collett

What a lie:
Work will set you free.
They worked
until death
set them free.
Some like you Anny
were tricked
into showers
and gassed.
The same sun and moon
shone on you then
as on me now,
but they shone
on you dying
and so young.
What lies were told,
what a betrayal.
When I look
at the afternoon sun
or the moon at night
I think of you
so long ago,
but I still
think of you though

A deeply moving memoir of a tragic time here. In spare but powerful language the speaker addresses in thought a young female named Anny, who was one of the many who were killed by the Nazi regime in the Auschwitz concentration camp during the Holocaust. Her relationship to the speaker is not specified, but evidently it was a close one. There are some losses that are not forgotten.
