PERSPECTIVE OF AGE.

PERSPECTIVE OF AGE.

A Poem by Terry Collett
"

AN MAN REFLECTS ON AGING.

"

Aged. You feel aged.
Part of you wants to
Draw the curtains and

Sit with a cup of cocoa,
Put on an old jazz LP
And pretend the world

Spins without you, or
(And you do) stand by
The open window with

Glass of booze, (nothing
To lose) take in the sight
Of girls passing slowly

By, remembering when
You gazed before at girls
Whom you loved or adored;

But now it’s just to view
How time has gone, how
Fashion’s changed, how

Eyes have grow dim and
You put in a CD of some
Dance mix and with dodgy

Back, gently toe the carpeted
Floor, from track to track.

This is quite different then what I usually read, but I like it.
It has a distinct flow to it. It's qorded uniquely.
I can feel the life come through this warm and tenderly.
Very well written.

There's a certain strength underlying the (perceived) fragility here that I love. "The force that through the green fuse drives the flower/Drives my green age; that blasts the roots of trees/is my destroyer." Very Ecclesiastes with how everything passes but also ... just wonderful with the details, the cocoa, the girls, and to gently toe the floor. Nice work. You have a world within these spare lines.
