MANHATTAN 2009.

A Poem by Terry Collett
"

A CHANCE MEETING WITH A WOMAN IN MAHATTAN IN 2009.

"

You don’t know why it’s
In Mathattan you
Meet them, but this dame

Comes out of nowhere,
And there she is, smack
Bang in front of you,

With her face that could
Tell ten million
Stories and no doubt

It probably does
If one stops with her
Long enough to ask

Or listen, and she
Reminds you of your
Aunt in Arkansas,

That way of looking,
That look of the eyes,
That get of out of my

Darn face, gaze, that, I’m
Going to wash this
Creep out of my hair,

Stare, and for a brief
Moment you think she’s
Going to utter

Something, come out with
Some angry words,
Some stream of abuse,

But she doesn’t, she
Just looks at you, gives
You that stare that your

Mother gave if you
Over stepped the mark
Or spoke out of turn,

And then she’s gone and
You look back at her
As moves along

Manhattan, her broad
Butt telling a whole
Different story,

A whole different
Ball game and you are
Glad you never spoke

To her and that she
Never said a word,
But her gaze and stare

Will always remain,
Always like a scar,
In your mind, be there.

I like the faces of old people. We have stories written in our eyes and face. I like this poem. You told a very good story. Thank you.
