You never told
The other girls
About your dream,
The haunting and

 

Reoccurring
Dream from night to
Night; dark forces,
The guns and death

 

Of them and you
And other deaths
Besides. You sat
With them while the

 

Photographer
Took his skilled time,
The photograph,
The way you posed,

 

The only one
To look away,
Your mind and thoughts
On other things,

 

The dream, the deaths,
The detailed ends;
The night times were
A curtain call,

 

A show, a film
In black and white
With coloured blood;
But you were so

 

Silent about
The dream; the boxed
Black camera
Had captured all,

 

The images
Set, the faces
Frozen in the
Frame, the dream not

 

Related. Least
Not then. Then too
Late, for the dark
Killing forces

 

Came; the dream was
True: the death of
Them and others
Besides and you.

Absolutely haunting. An amazing poem. Especially the last stanza.

With your words and photo create a haunting poem. I went to the death camps in Poland and Germany. The feel of death was still there 33 years later. Poem is well written. What would go through a young mind when you know death was so close? A excellent poem. Thank you.

Four Jewish teenage girls. From right to left are: Breine Plotnik, Sara Ginunski, name unknown and Mikhele Plotnik. All were killed by Nazis in September 1941 in mass shooting action in Eisiskes.
