CALL OF NATURE.

CALL OF NATURE.

A Poem by Terry Collett
"

A GIRL POSING FOR AN ARTIST HAS THE CALL OF NATURE.

"

There is birdsong outside
The window but the artist

Wishes Jane to keep still and
Not move head or frame or

Hands and Father said to do
As the artist says and so she

Does but the birdsong allures
Her attention the movement

Of the artist his hand his flick
Of head and hair annoy and

The chill of room nips at fingers
And toes but still she quietly

Poses and sits and waits and
Senses the creeping need to

Urinate so crosses the legs
In desperation squeezes fingers

Tight bites lip strains muscles
Of her face thinking hope he

Grants me leave to move and
Go to the toilet and yet still he

Continues to paint and move
His head and flick his hair so

In despair she raises a hand
And stands then runs stilling

His artistic rapture saying excuse
Me but it’s the call of nature.
