Oh My Country

This poem won first place in the Would you protect your country? contest. This is also the shortest poem I've written so far. And no, it wasn't done in Physics, it was done after school.

Oh my country,

Oh my country,

How can I serve thee true?

With fifty white stars upon a field of blue,

And stripes of red and white intertwined;

Land that's lasted just over two centuries.

This land has turned to red,

Just as Moses turned the waters red in Egypt to set the Hebrews free.

This blood today is not my own,

But of my fellow countrymen.

Thou has shed thy blood for me,

Shalt I not shed mine for thee?

Oh my country,

Oh my country,

How can I serve thee true?

Author's Note

On both sides of the family, we have had and have service-men and women. We thank God that we have not lost anyone in action. But we weep and pray for the families that have. God bless America and her people. Even the ones who hate her.

This one touched my heart. Makes one proud of our history and to realize that each new day we are making history ourselves. Freedom isn't free. It is courtesy of victories on the battlefields.

I vow to thee my country all earthly things above This quotation sprang to mind reading your words but My country and yours can still be in the wrong.Many men have died for their " Country" or rather for the ambitions of politicians
