Tejas

This poem won second place in the Would you protect your country? contest. And it's another long one for those that know my writing.

My state is my country true.

We have held our own once before,

And we can do it again.

To the South we have fought,

We gained our independence from them.

It was not bought,

But paid for in the currency of blood.

Just ask the Alamo,

In San Antonio.

Ask Austin, who started livings here.

Ask Sam Houston, who led our independence.

We have fought to the North as a state,

But it holds no concern for us,

For they see us as misbegotten.

I would rather be a country once again,

Than to be seen as misbegotten.

My country is state.

Blood has been shed for me to live.

Should I not do the same?

After all you see,

We are the friendly state,

Are we not?

We are Tejas.

We are Tejanos,

We fight to the end.

Remember the Alamo.

Remember San Jacinto.

Think people! Tejas...Texas....Hello! And the picture is from this school year, 2007-2008, when my high school won District, undefeated! I went to elementry school with at least two of them pictured here. But the picture is to show the poem in modern time in a simple way. Fight for your right.
