My heart on my shoulders

My heart on my shoulders

A Poem by Vanessa van Gersie

Today, I carry my heart on my shoulders
A plain, visible, yet gory sight
It stains my shirtless pride
Maims my corky stride

I'm ashamed... of the very pulse
That should signal life.
Today, I carry my heart on my shoulders
 Available for the taking

Warm, shiny, brewed
Formed, tasty, skewed
So why won't you take it?

Is it too heavy? Too maimed
Unsteady?  Untamed?
All the above? Or just not enough...
Today I carry my heart on my shoulders
