How have you been?

I was too small 

to say hello -

but I’m glad you weren’t.

I did think of you, 

at times,

but I wasn’t big enough 

to reach out, to reconnect.

I’m glad you did.

In doing so,

I remained a shrub;

you became a life-giving tree.

I stayed a pond,

while you swelled 

into an ocean unbound.

And yet, 

I do not feel 

dwarfed by your stature,

nor diminished by your light.

I feel special.

Loved.

And there lies your greatness.

Sometimes we feel others would reach out...but too much time or feelings have gotten in the way, so it is up to us to make the move. And often enough that can bring two friends back together for an eternal stay
in friendship's hotel.
