Before the Mountains

Before the Mountains

A Poem by DIVYA

Before the Mountains

I am mourning
under my mountain,
and you are mourning
under yours.

But our mountains
don’t know our pain.
They stand above us-
solid, singular,
kissing the skies.

I try to reach you,
but mine won’t let me.
It’s too big,
and I can’t overcome it,
try as I may.

I see you
struggling with yours,
but like me,
you’re losing.
Your mountain prevails.

Before they grew,
we were together-
sharing the sunshine,
the laughter.

Now, the wind
carries nothing
but echoes.

I think the mountains are possibly symbolic of the human ego. That is what usually comes between people and topples seemingly great relationships. But of course the ego is the cause of a lot of other problems, too. We are apparently willing to give up a lot to save our egos.

Absolutely John. Egos get bigger than everything else including relationships, of course. Thank you .. read more

Well, this is why we try to transcend the avatars and step outside of them on occasion. To not identify with the "I" and its countless hindrances(fear, envy, sensory desire, anger, etc)... Of course, we can blame the world for it these days. Everything is set up to reinforce the illusion of isolation, of us fighting through our extinction events knowing that nothing we achieve along the way will change the final outcome... We come into this world with absolutely nothing and that's exactly how we leave it.

Of course, the experience of these simple yet fundamental truths is what we are responsible to get to on our own. 🤔 Nicely written.

as your line expresses, this is so mournful...when we share such an empathy with someone, like a soulmate but we cannot reach them...mountains of interference stands between.
