Don't Worry

Don’t worry, I’m used to it-
when someone leaves
without a word
of if or when they’ll return.

I look for them
in every nook and corner
where they used to be
diligently, silently
rewinding words,

retracing their steps,
remembering how
they had closed the door
when they left.

I hold on to their thoughts,
the things they touched,
as breath holds on to warmth
quietly, but firmly.

And should they not return
My pieces are mine
to pick up and glue back
Don’t worry
my crushed hopes
are mine to bury.
