I Saw The Birds

I Saw The Birds

A Poem by DIVYA

I saw the birds
flying home at twilight
sharp as arrows,
cutting through the sky,
swift and sure,
they vanished in the dusk
Beyond the edges
of my sight.
How quickly they flew!
And one of those birds
I saw,  it was you.

Some just can't be tied to the nest...they must be free.

This poem reminds me of the place in Trinidad where we took a long boat ride and came out to this giant tree. At exactly 6:10 every evening, an entire flock of Scarlet Ibis would show up and land in the tree. They stayed for five minutes and then took off. One of the most beautiful things I have ever seen. Thanks for the reminder.

Our avian friends are well worth the watching. I make a point of doing this each day. Your words here DIVYA,speak to me of the freedom of the skies. I love watching birds in flight. Some people can not be tied to one place, they take to their wings too and that can be so devastating for those who are more grounded. I appreciated some fine imagery in your words as well as being touched on an emotional level by the meaning. Hope all is good with you dear friend.

This is a quietly breathtaking poem—short, poignant, and deeply moving.
