In the silence

A fear of shadows...

A shadow is pressing

into me.

Filling my room,

falling upon my pages,

my pillows,

my words.

It's there,

yet never there.

Its face obscured always 

by the night 

that birthed it.

I could tell it to go away

but it seems lonely,

just as I am.

If I let it,

it would wrap itself

willingly around me,

take my soul

and run away into

an abyss.

But I don’t want to

give my soul to a shadow.

Because shadows

are dark.

when you see yourself in light(metaphor for clearly), shadows are one of those things which never leave, just like dark things, obsessions, desires. Quite a haunting piece of poetry you have written here, sounds ominous but also literal, the psychological element of loneliness+darkness+fear is what I liked the most, the way the words are put is beautiful. thank you for sharing this
