Find Me A Dress

Find me a dress that will shimmer and glow

As softly as snow in the newborn sun

As moonlight on rivers its train must flow

From the breath of lilies it must be spun

Upon my bare skin its fabric must gleam

Caressing me with the softness of doves

Its bodice must hug me like a hushed dream

Its skirt a spun-silken promise of love

Each stitch of this dress must be a strong vow

Yet tender as buds when they wake at dawn

Its tulle of stars must light up my brow

Under a veil more demure than a swan

Find me a dress that will not ever fade

A kiss of forever in pearl and brocade

Emily loved that word, "My tippet, my tulle" she used in "because I could not stop for death"
I like how you make the search for a dress appear like a search for a lover, a mate.
The dress is personified so wonderfully yere.
The last two lines a perfect ending.

This is breathtaking pure poetry in silk and starlight. You’ve just described the dream dress every heart waits for.

Thank you so much, dear Neha.
But I don’t want to go to a Bridal store! Or watch reality TV crap, either!

Having said that, your sonnet does capture the high expectations that many Bridezilla’s have for their dress and the wedding day as a whole. All expenses are never spared to make the bride happy on her special day and looking just right in her flowing white gown.

And then……after a few years of marriage, she hates the grooms guts with a passion, they get divorced and the dress gathers moths in the back of the cupboard! A truism of modern marriage! Then they probably appear on another reality show called, “Get effed to the dress”. $50k well spent? Who knows!

A fine sonnet that addresses an original, modern day theme.
