You Who Make Me Laugh

You Who Make Me Laugh

A Poem by DIVYA
"

Man's best tool...

"

You who make me laugh

scatter my glumness like chaff.

Smiles deep down unspool,

though my lips still play it cool.

Your tickles travel,

a tightness unravels;

Your humor draws taut its bow,

daubing sly wit on its arrow.

You who make me laugh,

slip in through a chink, just a half.

A secret lake is rippled,

its tart waters touched, tippled.

Into my belly you slide,

Reaching glades, I thought had died.

And so the curtains part for you

come right in, unzip my blues.

They say laughter is the best medicine! I wish I could remember that when I’m annoyed or feeling down. I loved this poem and shelved in my library. Perhaps it will remind me. There were so many lines that were so well written, my favorite the secret lake. What a fabulous visual. Thank you for sharing your writing.

Very good rhyming underlining an important topic. Laughter may not in truth be the best medicine (Merlot is.), but it relieves stress like few other things can, and it's free. In this stressful world in which we are living today, that's of crucial importance.

I love how the blues is used in different ways... first a kind of darkness, then lit up with a man who makes you laugh and also a man who makes you tickle inside....and then he "unzips your blues" and you become infatuated with him ....nothing like a laugh to chase away those blues...and more....thank you my friend for sharing this remarkable piece...

"unzip my blues" love that.
I relate to this piece. Humor has gotten me through three divorces and number of other pitfalls in life...
without it, I would be dead.

This is a writing that shows how should be written. Go on, make them laugh and claim their hearts.

Thank you so much dear Sapphus. Just when I had begun wondering about it. :)
Splits for years? Not that rascally gym teacher, surely!

There is humour and then there is wit, similar yet very different. It’s easy to be humourous but much harder to be witty. It requires an elevated level of sharpness and intelligence that many do not possess. A bit like being proficient with metaphors in poetry, perhaps. Humour will bring the chuckles but true wit turns them into side splitting ones. A rarity in this day and age where people have almost forgotten how to laugh and take tiny things so seriously.

Whoever this poem is dedicated to must be responsible for a belly full of laughs. Laughter will always trump the blues any day of the week if we are exposed and open to it.

Well rhymed and alliterated in sections.
