J-Pop Breakup

J-Pop Breakup

A Poem by Thomas Emile Vaughen
"

A follow on from Strange Loops.

"
Strange little I. Strange little You.
We never did withstand the loop.
Met when we were young in a sweltering summer.
You soon found out my ego was a bummer.
I thought your obsession with anime was
incredibly lame. The sickly sounds of J-pop
very trite and tame.

You had the audacity to ask me to clean
the kitchen counter, and peel a cucumber -
"next", I replied, you'll have me chopping
up lumber.

All those memories on the bon fires of time,
the way we held hands and the words that I'd rhyme.
We weren't right together, the present attests,
but that doesn't mean there weren't moments I'll cherish,
that we weren't both blessed.

Do I even believe this?
Or does it really matter?

I suppose we built each other, in a sense,
your ghost in my essence.
