Upon The Frost Covered Moon

Upon The Frost Covered Moon

A Poem by Tina Kline

Upon the frost covered moon
darkness rains down
ebony pearl droplets
treasures from the night

the wolves howl long and loud
their songs seeming of loneliness and despair
but really the wolves sing of life
and the wonders and joys
of living

the darkness weighs heavy on mankind
the shadows fill their hearts with fear
they know death lingers in the night
and the moon in the dark sky spells doom

the wolves lope through the dark forest
the frost covered moon lights their path
their tongues loll out
they playfully nip and laugh
life is a celebration for them

for humankind
life is nothing more than a long
tortured journey to death

The contrast of humans and wolves is stark. The wolves live and enjoy it as much as possible while humans live and spend most of it trying to prevent death from creeping up on them and taking them. Amazing write. I love the way you present the differences in your poem.

Contrasts flow powerfully in your dance of light and dark... night that is life and night that bring fear and death... Subtle and stunning words.

Thanks very much!
Yes, we humans do suffer the knowing of our coming death, unlike the wolves who just live to live and enjoy their time, we can assume. Excellent poem.

True words here. Humans are cursed with knowing they will die thus life just can't be completely carefree.

Good comparison and so true. Humans think a lot about their coming death, the older and sicker the more they think. Wolves don't have to deal with this. Enjoyable poem.
