HIGH ON THE MOUNTAIN

HIGH ON THE MOUNTAIN

A Story by Tina Kline
"

Is this, then, the way the world really ends? Who can know.

"

High on the mountain....overlooking an ancient city. Somewhere but not anywhere here. The sky is shockingly blue...cool breezes wash up from the ocean, swirling above the pain and despair of humanity. Up here where the air is rarefied and hurts just to breathe. So high no seagulls would wing their way up here just to circle and make their plaintive mewing cries. From this vantage point see the world below that is not this world at all.

Don't mock. Swirls of blue intermingle making the sky a very unique and unearthly heavenly place. Hear the prayers in a tongue not of this world yet the world recognizes the words and the voice. Instead of listening and acknowledging they choose to turn away. Now they are mocking HIM. Sinning is more important yet they think they sin not at all. But remember...this isn't a place of this world, no not at all.

The heat is oppressive this day that isn't a day. HIS hands spread wide as He gazes down at His lost children. Oh, how they hurt and how they ignore HIM. HE calls to them. They turn away, letting the world's evil playthings drown out His voice. They are tiny and too small to hear, too fearful to look up, their shame and guilt of the ugly lives they lead keeping them down in the dark of their existence. They are too fearful to look up and see HIS all consuming love. It is too much for them. They scuttle away into dark places where they think HE cannot see them. They cannot see HIM but HE sees them where ever they are. They cannot escape HIS eyes. The shame and guilt they feel but can't admit to eats away painfully at them but instead of seeking HIS love and acceptance they mock HIM endlessly.

Purples and blues swirl together creating a shifting heaving red. It drifts over the cities of the world, but not this world. Here dreams dart about like lightning slashing away in the swirling red. Could they be storm clouds? Was some sort of war about to be had? A war in the world but not of the world?

He weeps from HIS vantage point gazing down at His lost children. So many lost, some know they are lost, yet so many don't. So many try. These he will scoop up in HIS loving embrace and take with HIM. The dark trumpets of war blast around this tired and sinful war torn place. The Dark Prince has arrived, the Morning Star, the soul stealer, the soul eater. HE calls out a warning to His children, so far below trying to live out their tortured and pain ridden lives. COME WITH ME! COME NOW! Those who are trying lift their heads heavenward in wonder. Yes, they heard HIM calling but so many turn away, saying all sorts of horrible things to the believers, HIS worshipers. Yes, the deliberately deaf children cut anything that has anything to do with HIM down and tear it out of society for they are offended by anything good. The sinners do their best to wipe HIM and HIS teachings from the face of the earth.

As HE weeps He calls one last time. The swirling red becomes flames and it circles the earth that is not this earth. The fires are burning. The destruction is happening. HE reaches out HIS hand from on high to guide HIS children out of the chaos that will consume this place. A few of HIS children know HIM and follow HIM. Many more choose the sinful ways of the earth and its Dark Prince and turn away.

There is a burning ball of fire hung in space somewhere. No one cares about this place...anymore.

This is amazing. A very well written tale of how important Jesus is in our live. Without Him there is no healing. The very unique way you expressed this in your writing makes the message clear, enjoyable and maybe will enlighten a few people. This is very presentable without preaching. I enjoyed reading this.
