Where Dark Things Linger

Where Dark Things Linger

A Poem by Tina Kline

Deep into my mind
Dark images linger
Somber fantasies
Of things that cannot be

I linger
On these inner landscapes
Facing the nightmares
One by one by one
As they come toward me
Suicide is a battle
Fought but seldom won
But claiming victories
Over and over again

Dark dreams
Of deathly creatures
Not so innocent here
In the nether regions
Of where my consciousness goes
Night and day
No, within life's embrace
I cannot play
No, I cannot wait anymore
For it is the living, not death
That has become the horror

Sometimes in life the only thing that keeps you sane is sadness and its not an easy emotion to portray in a writing. I am still amateur and learning how to capture it. but I know that you have done a great job with this one. I loved it. Keep exploring your consciousness. take care.

A very strong write, the last two lines are exquisite, but hard to read. But I suppose that is the thing about great poetry, it dares to face difficult truths sometimes.

It is difficult to write a review that you hope is wrong but in this work I see and feel the revelations of a deep depression that doesn't seem to want to end or simply go away. It is a haunting piece starkly honest and vivid and well structured and yet, it bears an omen I don't want to entertain.

Fantastic imagery, fantastic speculation. I like the unicorn too. Though the topic was grim, I enjoyed this immensely

This is a nightmarish poem, indeed! It inspire me to write this tiny gift song-poem for you to keep as your own:

Nightmare

Haunting shades of fear and dread
occupy the maiden’s bed
as they spread from toe to head
smothering like liquid lead.

Thank you thank you!
A sojourn into the recesses of a forbidden forest of a fractured psyche. The Maniacal Mistress bids come hither, much as the mermaid lures the forlorn sailor into the deep. Drawn in by a tear and held captive by a beckoning half smile. The mundane pleasures of the world of light fade into the folds of darkness. The last beat of a heart grown cold echoes into the unknowable depths of the abyss. Tis then the shadowed creatures arise to absorb the last fragments of light. Where we sought only to give our pain. A new day dawns. The horror of aching spirit and desperation drag us back to the world of men.

Favorite bit: Suicide is a battle, fought but rarely won
Nicely ended.

Very chilling and deeply frightful.
Grand descriptions. A darkly enchanting and spellbinding poem.

Deeply chilling. Who can know what is real land what is not just by appearance?
Fantastic poem, very well written.
