Into The Dark

Into The Dark

A Poem by Tina Kline

Fleeing into the dark

The full moon leaves its mark

I race to the distant shore

All around me the ocean roars

My body hurts and so does my mind

In my heart I know I’m out of time

I hear a howling inside my head

It leaves me trembling with horrible dread

It pads down the night beach after me

I’m too sick and tired to continue to flee

Its wolfish eyes stare with unrelenting flame

I know I’m about to experience slashing pain

Wishing the midnight waves would soothe my soul

Metamorphosis into becoming the beast begins to take its toll

Echoing off the sea shells you can hear my demonic yell

As bodies begin to bleed into the ocean my reflection looks like hell

As the blood washes upon my beastly lips I crave for more

The beach becomes a graveyard as many victims float upon the shore

The smell of death and wet fur brings a curse to the sandy wind

Nothing like seeing bloody salt water and flesh dripping from my chin

The deadly screams upon the waves you will struggle for your life

Caught inside the claws of a werewolf a bloody casualty from its strife

Upon the crimson sand the full moon leaves its mark

A shadow of the beast fleeing into the dark

At dawn beach combers come upon this grisly sight

Seagulls and crabs eating the remains from last night

My howl echoes from the depths of a shadowy beach cave

Soon others torn apart by the werewolf will be resting in their graves

When I waken eventually from the thrall of the full moon

I fully come to realize the extent of my hellish doom

I'm glad I read this! Very well done!! The imagery and feelings were vivid and I found myself strapped in and being taken for the ride. I especially liked how the pacing and point-of-view changed from human to wolf from fearful and tormented to exhilirated and driven by blood-lust back to remorse and dread of the knowledge that it will happen again. Excellent!!

A vivid and dark tale of the torture of becoming a werewolf. I enjoyed this, these darker werewolf tales are more gripping then the tame werewolf tales. Another outstanding collaboration with Sean.
