SPIDER INVASIONA Story by Tina KlineIt was early morning in my parents house making the dining room grey and shadowy. Over by the arch at one end of the room where my parent's stereo was sitting I noticed something on the wall. It was moving upward. My youngest sister noticed it too. “Look!” she pointed. I was already looking. My dad decided to look too. We walked over to that part of the room and noticed a large white spider scuttling up the wall. Me and my youngest sister started screaming. Our other sister came to see what we were looking at and at the up close sight of the big shiny white spider she started screaming too. It was really awful looking. The further up the wall it went the larger it became. It was so white and shiny that it reflected light coming from the living room making it even creepier in the shadowy grey room. “We gotta kill it!” my youngest sister said. “I'll go get the spray!” I rushed into the hall then into the bathroom to retrieve the spray. While I was gone smaller white spiders appeared around the first one. The further up the wall the spider went the larger it got until it was a foot in size all the way around. When it moved it's legs it looked horrible, a nightmare of the worst kind! I could hear the horrified sounds of my sisters as they watched the spider as I hurried back to the room with the spray. I saw much to my horror the smaller white spiders scuttling about the bigger one that was now in the corner trying to hide I thought. I raised the can and sprayed the spiders. The spray coated them and the big one crumbled in on itself. “They're dying!” I said with relief. Myself, my sisters and my dad all sighed with relief. As we watched the smaller spiders crumbled in on themselves just as the huge one did. We'd got the spiders. They were still clinging to the wall, curled up and shrunken looking. They could only be dead. “Where did such huge spiders come from?” I said. “I can't imagine. I just hope they're aren't any more.” my youngest sister said. “Don't worry too much about it.” Our dad said. “If more show up we'll kill them too.” I looked up at the huge dead spider and the smaller dead spiders around it and wondered how we were going to clean that nightmarish mess up. I didn't want to go up there and clean them off the wall. I looked at both my sisters. I could tell they were thinking the same thing that I was. They weren't going up there either. “Dad. You have to clean those dead spiders off the wall.” she said to him. Our dad just smiled and shrugged, “Of course I'll do it.” “Good.” I said in relief. There'd be no problem there. I turned away from the gruesome scene of the dead white spiders to return the can of spray to the bathroom when I noticed something hanging from the ceiling near the front door. I felt a stab of fear shoot painfully through my body. It looked like an egg sack hanging in the silken webs of a spider. I moved closer to get a clearer view of them. The shadowy room made it hard to see clearly. My sisters and dad both noticed me staring. “Ew, what are those?” my youngest sister asked. “God! I hope not. It can't be!” I gasped. “Oh no.” our dad said. “Spider egg sacks!” We were all standing by the front door and looking up. All along the ceiling from the archway that leads from the dining room into the living room and the fireplace were many many sacks of spider eggs. More smaller white spiders were scuttling there, creeping and scuttling about where the egg sacks were attached to the ceiling by the spider's white silky threads. Some were scuttling about the wall and others crawled about on the larger egg sacks. The egg sacks varied in sizes, from the size of basketballs to the size of golf balls. They were hanging in sacks made of spider web silk. We all stood there staring up at the ceiling at the many egg sacks and white spiders scuttling about. I shivered, feeling sick. “How are we going to get rid of all these spiders and their egg sacks?” “I don't know.” my youngest sister said. “There's so many.” said my other sister. Our dad made a groaning sound. We all stood there staring up at the white scuttling spiders and the many egg sacks hanging within the white silk spider bags. I realized what it all meant. I was sure my 2 sisters and my dad were thinking and feeling very similar things as I was. I looked at the can of spray in my hand wondering if there was enough spray left in the can to kill all the white spiders scuttling about. Some of these spiders were about half a foot in length. All those egg sacks had spider eggs in them and they would hatch. Millions and millions and millions of little white spiders would soon be spilling out of those egg sacks. I had visions of all the baby spiders hatching out of all those egg sacks and swarming about in the house. I felt sick and numb with the horror of it all. “I think we're in deep trouble.” My dad nodded his head in agreement. “I agree.” My two sisters also agreed. “Yup. We're in seriously deep trouble.” I said.
