FREEDOM AND LIBERTYA Story by Tina KlineThe eagle flew low over the snowy landscape. The cold air ruffled her white feathers. She breathed deeply of the crisp air. It was painful in her lungs but she loved it. She felt powerful in flight as she continued onward, noting the trees poking through the snowy landscape beneath her. The planets in the cold blue sky were dazzling. The rings of one sparkled like the rarest of rare diamonds. She was free. She felt exhilarated. The world
called to her from where she sailed above. She ignored the call. She
had unfurled her wings to take flight into heaven. That's where the
eagle wanted to be so that was where she had put herself. High above
everything and everyone Those below her were no longer of importance. The beauty of the world at this height stole her heart and was winning the war for her soul. She would surrender. The beauty was dazzling. She had no desire to fold her wings and return to Earth. No, she would remain airborne forever. There was no reason what so ever for her to become land bound again. She loved it here, so high up in the rarefied air. Sometimes the eagle would drift lower, to take a closer look at the Earth that once had been her home. But no more. Did she miss her home of land, air, water and trees? The eagle didn't like to think on this subject. It was dirty, not pure and beautiful like the wild lands from way up high. She didn't want to find that she just might miss her former home. No, she'd stay aloft and fly beneath the rings of the planet and marvel at its rare unique beauty. Years went by and the eagle flew around the Earth many times. The snow was always just as beautiful as it was the first time she had seen it from these lofty heights. The trees coated in the snow were just as lovely as were the huge planets that dominated Earth's skyline. All so beautiful. Perhaps she'd remain in these wintry lands. She so loved them. The sunlight sparkled on each individual snowflake where it had come to a gentle rest. Yes, perhaps
it is time for me to find the location in the sky and air where I'd
like to remain. Stop my circling of the globe. Too many eagles these
days have taken up the same journey that I had taken up years ago.
The eagle flapped her wings gracefully as she skimmed a snow covered
landscape eyeing it and contemplating if this was to be her home for
years to come. She liked this landscape. She liked the cold biting
air and the chill that made her feel so alive. She loved the way the
cold winds ruffled her feathers. Yes, the
eagle found she did, indeed, like this landscape. This snow covered
place would be her home for now, these skies where she would fly. The
eagle sailed lower and lower, she skimmed the snow, causing snow
crystals to rise up into the cold air in little swirling puffy
clouds. The tree limbs brushed her feathered body and the coldness
filled her lungs in a painful yet thrilling way. Yes, the eagle came
into land but never quite made that landing Instead the eagle flapped her wings powerfully and rose right back up into the cold, icy blue sky. Her eyes dropped a few tears that instantly became frozen pearl droplets that fell back down to the cold snowy Earth. No, the eagle couldn't give up her flight. No, she couldn't come to rest anywhere. Her home was now circling the Earth and marveling at its endless mysteries. So what if other eagles had taken to doing as she was doing. She loved this life, circling the Earth and sailing over her most favorite of places, this snowy landscape with its planets in the pale icy blue sky. The eagle felt a smile in her heart. She was making the right choice, to continue on her journey into eternity. No reason to end her flight, no need to at all. Rising higher and higher the eagle opened her powerful hooked beak and let loose her voice. Her song of triumph. Her song of freedom and liberty. No, one must never give up their freedom or liberties for safety or comfort for those things were only illusions. If you are not free you do not really have safety or comfort for they can be taken away from you very easily, the eagle knew this to be so true. Flapping her powerful wings the eagle flew on, happy with her decision, happy with her freedom and liberty to go where she wanted and be who she wanted to be. © 2012 Tina KlineReviews
