If they were right, if they were wrong
In the last was to answer is easy, is true
In the first, not so clear cut
Each man chose himself what to do.

Events overtook them in their homeland
Some took arms in the new fight
Others baffled and bewildered
Why folks now shunned them for doing what was right
In the world as they understood it
No one wanted to listen to stories they’d tell
Of the mustard gas, the shelling, the corpses
The mud and the screams and the hell.

But today we can say for all of them
Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam, Amen
No matter the flag or the reason
Remember all fallen Irishmen.
