Shall I, shan't I? The question so occupies my mind, I've tasted love sweet like nector from the gods that no earthly drug could scarce compare, I was inspired by its allure, surfed foamy crest of seventh wave, touched twinkling stars, my zest unbridled, her kiss the fuel of my desire
But that was then and this is now, prisoner of my undoing let not a priceless gift take second place to one's own hubris pride, even the deepest well if overused, is destined to one day run dry, as now I sit in contemplation has life passed me by?
And yet not bereft of hope, a chink of light pierces my gloom another so radiant, so ravishing, walks by and I'm drawn like moth to light, rejection yes a bitter pill, yet to wallow in dreams of yesterday serves further to addle present indifference...
So I must grasp the nettle and should it sting, well at least consoled, resigned I gave it my best try... For life without love, surefire recipe to curl up, close eyes, and die!
I can’t contemplate what it must be to go through life, never having loved. A poet once told me he had never been in love. Wow I thought, poor you. I am always reminded of that old saying:
It is better to have loved and lost than never loved at all. I reckon if there is a chink of light it is worth taking a risk.
Very much enjoyed my visit here Tom. A delight to read you.
This was so worth reading again this grey morning and your choice of music has got my day off to a good start. Very fond of the Dubliners. Raglan Road, nostalgic and lovely. Thank you Tom and have a great day.

Chris you returned oncemore and so esprit de corps, amour, amour, I so adore
Your poem feels like someone standing between the memory of love and the possibility of it returning. I love the honesty in admitting both the ache of the past and the pull toward hope. It reads like a quiet decision to stay open to life, even after being hurt, a gentle, human kind of courage.
There should be no quandary. When it comes to love, you should never hesitate. Sure, you might get rejected, but it is always worth it to take the leap. Who know? The safety net might just appear! Memories are sweet, but having a living breathing person to love in the here and now is better. Beautifully written. Love the choice of vocabulary. Lydi***
Hiii Tommmm!!! Love is such a hard thing to cover and yet its filled with depth that many write about. I found this poem very enjoyable to read.
I loved how you started the poem with "shall I, shan't I?." Starting the poem with a sense of wonder put me in the mindset to question myself while I continued to read the poem. Very well written. 🤗🤗🤗
This poem made me reminisce how I once loved so hard that it's essence skilled in all of my poems and made me dream of forevers that feels like my soul's gist. Even when not returned, despite it felt bitter, love's possibility was the morsel I was addicted to. And since then, love's beauty grew vast for me, it blossomed in petals I witnessed that I knew were buds yesterday, it woke at every dawn after ever dark night. I was more observant and calmer and cherished life with happiness in every fibre that it brought, though I still lose my way, I'm grateful I can feel it's warmth. What a beautiful and heart reflecting poem there Tom! How have you been?

Thank you Ken, your review is in keeping with the sentiment of my poem!

now that's what we tend to call a predicament around these here parts Tom .. I'm pretty sure there are others in the same boat tho' so just make sure you get in first so's you can choose, or at least pick n mix squire .. 🐧👍
Love defies us to understand it, to live without it, yet the temptation to freefall into it is always there. No one wishes to be alone. A dog or a cat can offer companionship, but love is a commodity the heart and soul needs to survive. I truly believe it is our salvation in this ever changing world.
