The WaitingA Poem by AntoñyoRandom piece![]()
“How long must I pretend for you,” she said,
but the mirror grew confused
This time there was no estimation
no self-assurance staring back
with a comforting sense of agreement
only doubt in her eyes, and better that
than the threat of crumbling kingdom walls
“I don’t have to pretend for you,” she said,
and a smile engulfed my soul
I had wanted to see the real her,
without persuasion, the beautiful her
buried beneath the beauty others admired
until their next-best alarm clocks rang again
if only for as long as she chose to believe
“I love that I can be
myself with you,” she said,
and I wondered if she ever heard the crashing
It came one blurry-eyed night
when sleep failed her for all the giggling
at jokes that were more silly than genuinely funny
She needed ‘silly’ and I was stocked full
as full as stored-up laughter
. . . from all the waiting
