Beautiful Muslimah (Beautiful Muslim Woman [edited])

A Poem by T. R. Writer

This is a rather personal poem and I hesitated about posting it because I know that religion can be a very touchy subject, but after I wrote it and shared it with the person it was mean for I wanted to share it with my friends her :) This is the edited ve

Beautiful Muslimah

An angel on Earth
God’s beauty shines through her smile
His love evident

It is easy to
Recognize and appreciate
Your appeal
For any man
With eyes
Can see that you are the
Epitome of beauty

Faithful Muslimah
Spreading God’s love to us all
Beauty shines within

Your spirit and
Your zest for God
Radiates through you
Like a beacon of light
Directing others
To God’s words
And the straight path

Bible and Quran
The Holy books from our God
Guide our daily lives

At a time when
My life was dark and
Obscured by
Religious labels
And inconsistent ideations
I prayed hard
That God
Would show me
The way
And then he sent you
And for a moment
 I was confused
Believing you
Were the answer to
Another prayer of mine
A prayer for a beautiful
Wife who loved God
I didn’t yet know
That you were indeed
The answer to my prayers-
My prayers for clarity

Jesus died for me
His life is the example
Thank God for his Grace

Oh Torey, this is one of your best ever! You've really written a masterful poem and I love how you combine free verse with haiku and have essentially created your own new poetic form. You write with a great deal of love and faith here and ultimately there is sadness, but acceptance too. I can see why you said this was a personal write, but it is also so good that I'm glad you took the risk and wrote it. I am just so proud of you for writing this and if I could give you a gold star I would :)

This write made me smile, and usually l avoid any mention of religion like the plague (any pun unintended.) while in today's society the Muslim religion really can spark nasty remarks, l think what you're portraying here is something different, perhaps what the Muslim faith is meant to show/do, rather than the wars being fought over it. As it is, l love the ideas you presented, and quite honestly, the fact that you didn't write about war when you touched this subject - broaching it with the hint of love/adoration & respect as you did brought a whole new perspective to it. Well done.
(l hope this doesn't offend you, as l found this to be...enlightening, l guess.)
