Borderline LoveA Poem by KaitIs there a particular person in your family whom you feel in conflict? write a poem in that person’s voice, describing the relationship between you.
As the years trickle past, my blood thickens I can read your attacks, I know you’re loathing Yourself, but instead you blame me For the control you lost when you were abandoned Your glass wall of protection is cracking, I should have known this is how you would react.
Vicious, juvenile temptations Cast a lightning streak past my peripherals Barking animalistic taunts into reddening ears Aching to release one hard swipe, One good crack of linguistic retort That you so deserve I restrain the golden glove boxer within Tears fall from my bruised and throbbing heart Waiting for the emotional beating to stop ‘I know she’s going to leave me’ Paranoid that my garish insults cut a little too deep, ‘Go wash your hands for the 3rd time That should help.’
I’m the grandmother who bakes nails into her cookies And pushes you away because she is afraid of losing you, Loves you unconditionally, under one condition, You are always the punching bag and my ‘sweet girl’
I’ve lost count of how many times The barb caught on your heart tugged a little too hard, So I released you Only to lure you back in once more And staked you like a vampire on a cold, sunny morning.
They say the closest ones feel it worst. Justified, that’s why I must push them away from me, So they don’t get hurt They might even get too close, Close enough to see my traumatized mind Even though she’s witnessed it on my darkest days And been burned by its’ toxic waste I will always love you, forever © 2012 KaitAuthor's Note
