A World Of Secrets

This is a poem I wrote after being lied to.

A world full of broken dreams, 

Where promises don't mean a thing, 

The words that come out of our mouths, 

Are just a waste of a precious breath.

In this world we live in, 

Trust is all that we have, 

Yet it can be so easily wasted, 

Shattered like broken glass. 

You look into someones eyes, 

And can see all of their lies.

It's almost like someone you knew, 

Becomes a total stranger. 

We live our lives, 

In a place of deceit, 

Where what is said to be the truth, 

Is just another lie hidden by disguise.

I enjoyed this well structure free verse poem. There's more to lying than what most people think. Often times people tell a lie because the truth is too complex to relate, and a simple lie will do when one is rushed for time. Often someone tries to please others, all of the time, in everyway and so they tell people what they think they want to hear. I'm not so naive as to think that I could get away with doing that for long, but if I was running for public office, or trying to sell a used car it might work long enough in the short term for me to make a bundle. Such is life. Always look for the diabolical motive behind what people say. Most religion & politics is the art of telling people what they want to hear all the way to the bank.
