In Which Ari Cuts Ross’s Life Support (For Goodness’s Sakes, Quit Looking At Me Like That, It’s Not As Bad As It Seems)

“Congratulations,” said Ari dryly when Ross woke up.
“What?” asked Ross sleepily.
“I’m going to cut your life support,” she replied, her finger on the switch.
“Augh! Why?”
“…Augh isn’t a word, Ross. Because you’re healthy enough to actually start eating food. And you don’t need any more blood.”
“… Well, I suppose that is good.”
“Yes, it is very good. It means you can probably now walk around and get up.”
“Joy.”
“Yes. Any last words, Ross, before I Flick The Switch?”
“Ehm… it was a good life?”
“… Yeah. Sure, Ross.” She Flicked The Switch.
Ross went very white for a few seconds, then color flooded back into his face. “I’m alive,” he said, rather amazedly.
“Yes, it is quite awesome.”
Ross paused for a few more seconds, then mentioned “I’m hungry.”
“that is good, then. Toast?”
Ross smiled and silently accepted the toast.
He also accepted the fact, in his secret, darkest corner of his heart, that now would be the time to escape.
And he knew that he might have to kill Ari to do it.
