Am I I Am?

Am I I Am?

A Poem by Tristan Maverick

I am
I am?
Am I really?
Am I really who I think I am?
Or am I who you perceive me to be?

I see myself in the mirror
The mirror or life
The one that makes you see
See what others see
And I see me broken
Shattered
I see my life in a million little pieces

My shattered life
In disarray
Where do I go?
I don’t know what to do
Where to go
How to get there

I am
Am I really?
Am I really what this mirror shows me?
Or am I who you say I am?

You tell me
You tell me I’m beautiful
I’m a light shining like the sun
I have infinite possibilities
But how can words compete?
Compare with what I see?
Words may be powerful
But words can never compare
Can never compete with what my eyes see
With what my eyes tell me I see
Whatever illusion is before me
The illusion my eyes tell me is true

You tell me that I am
I am exactly
Exactly the opposite
The opposite of what the mirror shows

Who do I believe?
The illusion that my eyes tell me is true?
Or your words my heart tells me is true?
