"An Empty Place"

"An Empty Place"

A Poem by Valentine

                 'An Empty Place'

When love walks away, with a large part of the heart;
How does it begin again, where does it start?

Just how is an empty void...ever refilled,
When a heart has lost all...that made life real?

How does one satisfy hunger in an empty place,
While the mirror shows lost tears...upon the face?

Time passes by and the empty space...cries out to be
Filled by love...not passing...the abandoned life one sees.

When a void is left empty...love...never to be found,
How can a mind refill...or a life become sound?

Love walks away...taking with it...two empty hearts,
Leaving a empty soul...no new place to start.

Author's Note

Valentine
This was written as I was watching my husband disappear with Dementia. It is heart breaking to watch their eyes as they slowly are forgetting all around them, and then one day they look at you and see a stranger.

Kathy, I am not want to cry but, close I was in reading your poem. I knew how your author's note was going to end and I felt so utterly sad for you in that moment of your despair.
You are a survivor, we, your readers are seeing that. It is not How so much as it is that YOU DO! I know that You and Melinda inspire me for different reasons and I am glad that you do! I wish that I was able to give something back,if not encouragement!

Just hang on to who ever you love as we do not know when they can be taken from us. Kathie
