Diamond Heart

Diamond Heart

A Poem by VelvetPotato

Diamond Heart
Pretty and Pristine
Sparkled like the Slope
Of Shimmering Powdered Snow
Prismed Parallelograms
Rigid, non-conforming
Not a Hymn for the Church
Nor a Tear for the Mourning
Sublime and Strong
Impenetrable Ice
Not a single arrow impaled,
Ornamental atria; cross-sectional slice
Stunned Myocardium
Frozen on its mount
Not a sole beat to Queen
Nor a pump on Blood's account
Aficionados Admired
The Cold Diamond of Esteem
But the Warmth of Love ran dry
Electrical dysfunctioning
When Vitality yielded to Beauty
And Response to Apathy

She was beautiful, but cold before she was cold.
Vanity makes for a diamond heart without much shine or sparkle...and what there is is fake.

No tears mourning her, no arrow through the hearts, just electrical dysfunctioning and
apathetic memories of what she was. there was admiration, but love?
wow, I like this piece...It took me where it did, and I enjoyed the ride...and the metaphors
quite stunning.

Thanks, j! Maybe the heart was actually cubic zirconia.

Diamonds sparkle but they are as hard as nails. Hardness speaks to me of coldness. These lines make me think of a heart that is impenetrable. Warmth is lacking here and the love has run dry. I am left thinking, another relationship bites the dust, or maybe it never really got started. Your lines Velvet tug on the emotions as well as offering some great imagery.
