The Short VersionA Story by kyrieAnother excerpt from the series I have yet to writeThe bench in the cemetery was unnervingly out of place, belonging more so in a public park than a resting place for the dead. Interesting that a cemetery would be found here in Sakura, a world for the immortals. From Simri and Zur, she knew that it was for the many warriors who, on their missions, had needed to become mortal for a period of time, and unfortunately died. Even though the blood didn't change…the flesh was still bound to die if not kept in an immortal state. She wondered if she would ever die. According to history, there had never been a forbidden child before. She sighed and looked around. Oquriishz Necropolis, City Of the Dead, City For the Dead. The whole city was a cemetery, with winding paths here and there. It was amazing how few warriors had dared been brave enough to take on the task of confronting mortality. Yet courage had nothing to do with it, because even the bravest had been afraid to go to Calypso. It was not the world that scared them, but the fear of being vulnerable to death. So said Simri and Zur. It was true though, she thought. Every world had its weakness. "Lestat?" He turned to her, eyes curious. The first place they'd told him to bring her was here, he'd said, so she'd see that her father truly was one of the bravest. This place gave her comfort, though not the way they'd expected. There were no people here, save them; not counting Ingriisiuss, protector of the dead. The gods truly had thought of everything in their world despite it being one for immortals, hadn't they? "When we go to a city, what will they think I am?" "Unbeknownst to this world or your own, you are the one who will save us all and bring balance to each." She considered his words for a moment, then said quietly, "I have no world to call my own." She stood still moment, then walked over to a narrow stone stairway hidden by a thick glade of tall trees. From only a few feet away, it was invisible. Except to those eyes which frequently lay upon its opening. "Be careful, it's steep." Lestat's voice startled her, but she didn't show it. Even though she knew vampires were masters of stealth, she'd never actually experienced it. Luna nodded and descended slowly. Lestat hung behind long enough to light a torch she'd seen out of the corner of her eye. It bore the same symbol that was tattooed on his arm, and she could only guess it was his. Asking him if he frequented the tomb often seemed too private an inquiry, so she said nothing. She went deep below the ground, until she could go no farther. Simri and Zur had made her memorize exactly how to get to her father's tomb, among other things. As was custom, his remains had been cremated long ago and were held in a pitch black necrossiidiiuss box, used only for the utmost respected dead. The purple chemsize it was wrapped in was further indication of her father's royalty. "Had you been fully immortal, you'd have been a princess. A Zelda, at least." She scowled at his words, knowing they were true. "Trust me, I'm a Zelda. I may not be a princess, but I am a Zelda." "Because you think you can fight?" "I think? I can, thank you very much. Simri and Zur taught me more than you might think the average mortal girl would need to know." "Simri and Zur? Aren't they igdormiits?" "They were awakened when it came time for the prophecies to be fulfilled. That's the short version." © 2011 kyrieAuthor's Note
