Part 4 - Kaden

Part 4 - Kaden

A Chapter by Dewella~Vintella

"I cant believe that woman, thinking she knows everything." I growled, pacing back and forth as Ralph, one of the younger wolves watched me.

I saved her damn life and she has the nerve to talk to me like that. Like I am some kind of worthless monster who pillages and rapes women. How ungrateful, and to think I was going to listen to the old hag and take these women in. I had almost said it too, had almost asked Layna to stay here with my pack when she had taken me walking. Damn good I had kept my mouth shut, the girl probably would have scoffed at me, looking at me with disgust.

"Exactly what happened with you two, Kaden?" I paused for a moment to glance at the young wolf, then continued with my fuming pace.

"Women, I will never understand them." I shook my head, silently cursing, "She wakes up and stars coddling us, cleaning the blood from our skin and using her little bandages to make us feel better. Then she take me aside and accuses me of having alternative motives! Me, of all people, what the hell did I do?"

Ralph opened his mouth to speak but I cut him off, ranting on, "I'll tell you what I did, I saved her a*s! I took the time out of my damn day and saved her."

I stopped and picked up a rock, throwing it into the forest trees with anger. I do a good deed and I get shunned for it, accused and scowled at. I should have let her die, but then again, she had saved Maria from the werewolf. Even if she had not saved the young child I still would have helped Layna; When I saw her laying there she looked so sure of herself, I saw it there in her eyes, she was willing to die if it meant the safety of the others.

She was a true leader, and Lupa in human form; She was a damn pain in the a*s, that's what she was. To think, I had almost considered making her my mate, she would have done well leading the wolfs. She was a firecracker and a fighter, hot headed and hardcore.

I blinked as Ralphs hand came into view, waving slowly in font of my face, "What?" I bit of and he backed away.

"You had this far away look on your face."

I growled for the umpteenth time, turning to look past the trees to where the women had made up camp, building a small fire as the sun started to set. Layne was no where in site, she had wondered off into the forest soon after our talk. Despite what the old hag had said I doubted Layna wanted to stay with our pack. I could only imagine her reaction if I would have asked her to stay.

With that thought came another, and a devious smile curved at my lips as I headed for the women. Ralph followed behind, asking questions but I paid him no attention, I had other things on my mind. The women raised their heads as I came into view, all looking up at me with big curious eyes. I put on a handsome smile as I greeted them.

"Good evening, Ladies, I hope you are all doing well." They were tentative, some nodded and other whispering a response. I had expected the reaction, though my men had saved their lives we were still what they feared.

"It has come to my attention that from time to time you travel with the other packs. Since it seems you are without protection at the moment I invite all of you to travel with us. I ask for no payment in return, I only wish for your safety."

I got many looks of shock and confusion, as if they had never had an offer as such before. They looked to one another, as if for guidance, it seemed that without Layna, they were unsure of what to do.

"The girl, Layna and I have spoken of this and have come to agreement. I only wish to make my offer to you personally, you are all free spirited women, you should have a say in his choice."

I held back a smile as my words seemed to encourage the girls, they were talking amongst themselves. Chattering on, voicing their opinions, weighing out their options. It seemed they had been struggling these lat couple of months to survive, and all agreed that having the protection of my pack would increase their odds greatly.

The old hag turned to me and spoke for the others, "Wolf, your offer is most generous, we accept."

I gave them a small bow and turned away, holding back my laughter. If Layna's last wish was to travel with my pack then I was going to find great pleasure in tormenting her. She might try to advise against this, but I had a feeling the others opinions would out weigh hers. If she was the leader I thought her to be, then she would put the others above herself.

I would show her I was not the monster she though me to be, and no doubt it would frustrate the hell out of her to be wrong. I rejoined my men who had set up camp as well, a short distance from the women. Sprawling down in the grass I crossed my arms over my head and laughed.
