Goddard’s Ghost

The wheels of a car screech

In an instant

Another life lost

A telephone pole wrappes around a car

A driver becomes a passenger

Life is so fragile

Could never see it coming

Nothing can stop death

When it knocks at the door

A white sheet covers a body

A loved one lost

A story ending

Hearts keep breaking

Then slowly mending

The worst phone call you can imagine

Has to be made

Funeral bills

That have to be paid

What do you think of

In the moments you die?

Do you have time to scream

Or even to cry?

Broken glass scattered

Messed up grass

The base of a pole

Bent and smashed

That’s all that remains

From one fateful day

When a car missed a curve

And the Angel of Death

Took the driver away

In memory of the driver who was killed on Goddard April 7, 2009.

You have been able to deliver a death message in a way that is most captivating! Sadly, I must tell you that I lost a 16 year old son in a car accidnet, so all that you write of here, I can relate to! It is the call that is the dreaded call, the funeral arrangements, but life must go on..the best that it can!
Good job with this vivid description!

Voice, this is an exceptional write, you're questioning of death and life's emotions are outstanding. It's really sad how things can just end in a snap of the finger, on our journey through life, but one small constellation is that someone like you, with a warm heart sheds tears for them.
Wonderfully written.

nice writting. I don't know if you knew that driver or if you were close to him or her but if you weren't that was really nice of you to write a poem for him or her. it is something to wonder about though. what do you think about when you die? do you think at all? what happens/ well I guess we will all know someday won't we?! great writting! keep up the good work!
love,
